I got 10 deg 53.69' S ; 178 deg 53.0' E, Fix via Nautical Almanac page 282 method Lat. 10 deg 54.08' S; Long 178 deg 54.78' E, Fix via Excel mSolver method Lat. 10 deg 53.84' S; Long 178 deg 52.86' E
I've probably missed the point again, but1/100th of a nautical mile is 61ft or roughly the length of my back garden. I know this exercise is 'the battle of the apps', but is it reasonable to quote a celestially derived fix to this sort of accuracy? Similarly
Ho=57.97742057, a reading to the nearest 1/100,000,000th of a degree. I’ve tried multiplying the mantissa by 60, and that mantissa by 60 again, but I can’t pin down a typical sextant reading, even after subtracting typical corrections. Where do the original figures come from? DaveP
