Not quite celestial, so may I be forgiven for asking, many here are marine oriented. I owned Weems & Platch Chartview, and then Visual Navigation Suite in several versions, which in its later days had a nice 3D interface for the time complete with flyovers, chart contoured to 3d bathy maps, etc.
The new timezero odyssey and navigator v2 adn v3 (equivelmet to my old VNS) I own took away the 3D features I liked and left only a smattering.
Their commercial packages do much more than that with 3d bottom updates, etc. ..but they are in the $1000 to $1500 range. Way more than I intend to spend for my old dive tool. I got told if I want good 3D, upgrade.
Also, Nobeltec decided to discontinue support for older versions, and as I understand it will no longer generate keys to unlock the older software if reinstalled. Thats essentially a forced upgrade approach that upsets me. As long as I can figure out how to run it on an old clunker win 7 machine, let me, I paid for it....and it is what I can afford right now.
In the higher end yacht or commercial community 1500.00 might be peanuts...but to me its a lot of fuel and boat repairs and helps with my dock fee....
OK, I'm a cranky old bas...rd, but I don't like features beign taken away and told I have to pay 3 times the price to get them back, nor do I like not being able to use legacy software I paid for.
I'm planning on parting ways with Nobeltec and looking for a lower cost to maintain alternate for the ordinary folk.
Wonder if anyone has used another Nav program with 3D, and maybe even better, also might integrate with playing around with celestial games.
