Recently I was looking for a copy of "Self-contained celestial navigation with H.O 208" and the cheapest copy I could find was $120 on Amazon which was a little pricey.
In this covid era it is a good idea to shop locally. I ordered Letcher's book a day or so go from a local seller. Tonight as we were having dinner there was a loud knock at the door and on the porch I found the ordered copy. It cost $NZ50 ($US35).
I leafed through the book quickly and now understand what "Self Contained" in the title means. However I still value having an original copy of HO 208.
I wonder if the NZ Yacht Navigators Society still exists? In this GPS era I suspect not. My daughter's sister-in-law's husband takes part in some of the big international yacht races. He is rarely home but maybe next time I see him I should mention words like 208, Sumner and long by chron and see if he knows what I am taking abuut. Probably not!
