> I personally think it's silly for a sub-30 foot boat to have a chart table; there just ain't enough room. I made room - it wasn't that big a sacrifice as it basically just resurfaces the salon table covering over the rounded ends with the 'lip' thats supposed to keep your plate on the table and the 1/4" gap in the fold down center that pokes holes in charts if you accidentally press too hard over it. I also feel that when I'm going somewhere: job 1 is sailing the boat - this includes keeping a watch for the "big boys" (see attached :-) ) job 2 is navigating the boat so I don't get lost. eating etc; is done on a 'as can' basis - not too much of a burden for a 2 or 3 hr leg. > But I suspect that there are "check off the list of features" buyers and builders that feel a uselessly tiny table bests none at all. I agree 100% and think buyers and builders are equally to blame for that attitude. If buyers insisted on a 'real' chart table, or flat chart storage builders would do it right - heck - Beneteau and Jeanneau ($$$$) put a wheel on both the port and starboard, so you can see better on a given tack. I wonder how many people would actually go anywhere if you gave them a boat without a gps / chart-plotter and insisted that they use traditional navigation ( just basic coastal DR & Pilotage, ...and heaven forbid you handed them a sextant) ? I love this list, but most of the time we are 'preaching to the choir' - or having informed discussions about navigation. ~Greg
