Taking apart an unfamiliar bubble octant is a daunting task. Thanks goes to Bill Morris for coaching me through some of the A-7's tough spots. One of the difficulties was the main prism which had lost most of it's silvering. The solution was simply to remove the silvering. Nearly full reflectivity was retained. Trial observations using the natural horizon showed that the octant is accurate. Bubble chamber issues remain and will require further efforts.
When buying bubble octants on ebay expect to put in a lot of hours getting the instrument functional. In some cases it may take the purchase of two octants to get one good working example.
