After redoing Frank's Advanced Celestial and Expert Celestial workshops, I thought it would be good practice to apply the general longitude equations and intercept equations to the sights from David Burch's "Hawaii by Sextant."
I have attached my calculations and a coply of my plotting sheet. Sheet 1A - Venus sight using ABC calcs; Sheet 1B - Venus sight using PQR calcs; Sheet 2A - Sun sight using ABC calcs; and Sheet 2B - Sun sight using PQR calcs. As you can see from the plotting sheet, the LOPs I got from the two bodies are not coincident. The 1204 UT Venus LOPs by the two methods are about 3 nm apart and the slope is slightly different (maybe a plotting error). The 1544 Sun LOPs are parallel, but nearly 4 nm apart. Please note I have not advanced the 1204 LOPs.
If anyone sees a calculation error that I have made, I'd appreciate the feedback. If the calcs look okay, I'll have to get stronger readers and try plotting the results again. Thanks in advance.
