NavList:

There are a couple of minor anomalies with the new setup on the message boards, but nothing serious that I can detect. The NavList message boards now look reasonably modern with interactive menus and other features. Common tasks are grouped together under the Tools menu which is accessible from every page within the site. There are also links to popular features and web sites in the menus. Formatted editing now includes a flexible, modern editor (based on the popular CKEditor toolkit). If you prefer, click on the little "abc" tag to go back to a traditional plain text editor (and if decide you prefer formatted editing, hit the "αβγ" tag to go back).

In the full editor, you can add bold text (note ctrl-b is a shortcut to turn bold on and off) and italic text (shortcut is ctrl-i). You can add simple bulleted lists:

• Deneb
• Altair

You can copy and paste content into your messages:

And you can add links to external content easily: here's a link to my Facebook page, for example (select some text and then use the link tool in the toolbar or ctrl-L as a shortcut). And of course, there's yet another way to add a degree symbol. The button on the toolbar with the big "degree" on it will drop a degree symbol wherever you're typing. So I can write 41°N, 72°W easily. There's also a mid-dot symbol which you may find useful for quick equations, like so: y=a·x²+b·x+c (easy mistake to make: remember to turn off the superscript key when you're done it). But the editor also includes the abillity to add publication-quality equations using TeX code. Click on the little fx button and you'll be presented with a nice editing tool which will allow you to compose relatively intricate equations. For example, here's the code for the "corner cosine" in a standard series solution of lunars:

Editing equations like this will be too much trouble for many NavList members, but others will enjoy it, I think. Adding images and other files (e.g. PDFs) is simpler now, and I'm including a couple of sample attachments. As before, you can then send your message as a public NavList message, or if you prefer you can send a private email reply (please use this feature sparingly). Please let me know if you have any questions or issues. Unfortunately, those of you stuck in really old browsers will have trouble with all of these changes. But if you're using any system/device with a reasonably modern web browser (anything released within the past three years), you should have no problems.
