I believe that's from the "Saipan legend" --folks who believe Earhart and her plane appeared on Saipan, and she was captured by the Japanese and all that. It's a legend, and no, it has not been verified in any way whatsoever. Eyewitness testimony is always problematic, but here we're talking about memories of memories from three-quarters of a century ago. Without real physical evidence, it's all just air and dust.
