Herman,
When a mechanic I know for his "Golden Hands" needs to drill a plexiglas (actually - just any material but plastic sheets in the first place) - he always starts with the smallest diameter bit - not more than 1.0~1.2mm. On medium RPM and with very little pressure he drills the primer - and only then he proceeds with the next diameter. Unless he wanted just that 1.0mm hole - he never uses the final diameter bit at the first drilling. All his tools are properly sharpened - and never blunt.
Never saw him cracking any plastic things in the process.
Regards,
Tony
