Thanks to Gary for pointing us to three interesting documents on air navigation. Not having had great interest or knowledge about air navigation may explain why I haven't come across any of those works before, or their authors. It's interesting that "Most probable position", by M D Wright, covering air nav. up to 1941, doesn't seem to have been published until 1972. I see that several copies are available via Abebooks at reasonable cost. There was a tantalising snippet remaining about a convoy transatlantic flight of three American flying-boats in stages in 1919 which was quite new to me. As for the NACA report no 131, from internal evidence I would judge it to date from the early 1920s. Can anyone offer a reference to the complete work it forms a part of, and its date?
