I recently was presented with a Kollsman periscope sextant ( due to my known love and interest in bubble sexants). I found that the bubble was still presented and adjustable. However, I couldn't see it when viewing to take a sight. I soon found out that the pellicle needed to be replaced. After some detective work and the help of the internet I located an article on how it can be replaced using a microscope slide cover. I think perhaps this instruction amd great idea came from Bill Morris. So, after the needed repairs I tried a few shots. The filters are fantastic! I was able to get some decent shots subtracting 24min from my sights. The results were approximately 2.5 miles from my GPS position.
Question is. Does anyone know the best way to make adjustments to the mirror? Ideally I'd like to tweak it to be closer. Sure, I can live with a final instrument error, but it would be great to have it near perfect.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
