There are a couple of people over the years who have requested an option for plain text delivery of NavList messages. These are now available. Attachments are listed as links. If any of you would prefer this option, let me know and I will set it up for you.
I've added new indexes of full years of NavList messages. You can find those in the archives section of the message board web site here: http://fer3.com/arc. The new indexes also permit subject and author searching though for now this requires a little editing of the URL. For example, out of the nearly 33,000 messages available, if you would like to see all 2,683 messages posted by George Huxtable, you would go this web address (URL):
http://www.fer3.com/arc/sort2.aspx?y=199401&y2=202001&author=huxtable
Or to see all 1,805 messages from Gary L, you would go here:
http://www.fer3.com/arc/sort2.aspx?y=199401&y2=202001&author=lapook
Or to see all 2,973 messages from me, you would go here:
http://www.fer3.com/arc/sort2.aspx?y=199401&y2=202001&author=frank%20reed
Sorting of messages is now by UT, which should help a bit. Messages are listed individually and in the indexes by the author's name even over the course of various email address changes that many of us have had over the years. Oh and names with diacritics (umlauts and such) display properly, too. URLs for messages are now "friendlier". This should help with search engine rankings. As an example, here's a message from George Huxtable from the year 2000:
http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Blish-prism-sextant-Huxtable-jul-2000-w2818
You'll notice that it includes keywords from the subject, the author's name or some portion thereof, and the month and year of the message. This makes links more self-explanatory. The older method using plain numerical indexes still works, of course. The new URLs are automatically generated as messages come in.
Let me know if you post any bugs or other issues.
