Volume II of the 1928 Admiralty Manual of Navigation also has the mathematical proofs. The 1928 edition came in two parts so it is part 11 that is "of a more advanced character".
I have vol 1 and 11 of several later editions but not vol 111. Still looking.
Vol 11 1928 was bound incorrectly. Page 22 is followed by page 33. I have not checked to see if the signature has been inserted elsewhere or if it is missing. I found the error when I wanted to learn how the difference of meridional parts was calculated.
