By the way, regarding the equation "to find the time difference between maximum altitude and true local noon" (when the obserer and the Sun are in relative motion), this has been re-derived many times. Note that most derivations do the analysis via differential calculus, but this is un-necessary. All we're doing is adding the linear motion of the observer onto the usual parabolic motion of the Sun near noon. Adding a straight line onto a parabola is a relatively basic problem in "high school" analytic geometry --no calculus needed.
