In choosing the box sextant I bought on ebay, I wanted an instrument in nice condition, obviously, but also I looked carefully to see if the screw heads were pristine, or were mashed indicated someone had taken the thing to bits at sometime in the past. Missing screws too is a sign that all may not be well inside the sextant and so best avoided.
