I think you did very well Sean. Box sextants on ebay are something of a minefield, I have always thought.
I have a Troughton, which seems in all respects identical, except that it came without a telescope. I am not sure that it ever had a telescope even though it would appear that it was made to allow one to be inserted. I am curious to know what magnification the telescope is - and is it a Galilean scope or is the image inverted? Too, what sort of filter can be inserted into the telescope - by how much does it reduce the light?
