Trevor- A good note about Pelican cases! If I wre checking one through, I'd only do so by putting it inside a small duffle bag or other nondecscript "wrapper". Of course, since sextants are exempted from checked bag liability, you'd have to be a fool to check it as baggage without taking out specific insurance on it anyway. Which presumably would cover the theft as well. Catch-22, the airlines are a great reason to take the train. Or sail instead!
