I haven’t encounted any evidence that plotting boards were used for celestial fixes in WW2. Attached below are two pages from the US Navy Air Navigation Series (1944). The Mark III plotting board would have been useful for solo pilot navigation (wind stars, interception, etc.). Celestial fixes, as far as I know, would have only been obtained on multi-crew aircraft. The attached 1944 illustration shows celestial LOPs being plotted on a paper chart by a dedicated navigator.
