That is certainly possible except the time is one hour after local noon, not sunrise. Hence no 'rising Sun'. Japan was certainly making attacks against the Philippines and Malaya on 9th, but I was unable to find anything reported near that position that day. The position is nearest the Philippines Island of Palawan. but well south of where Japanese attacks were being made. The sun is ideally placed for dive bomb attacks out of the Sun, but no vessel was sunk in that area, at that time, that day. Repulse and Prince of Wales were sighted on the 9th leading to their sinking on 10th, but that was probably much further south. There are underwater extinct volcanos shown on Google Maps, but no eruptions were recorded that day. The problem is that whatever you Google, the events of 7th and President Roosevelt’s actions of 8th and 9th swamp out everything else. It’s possible a damaged aircraft ditched in the area and is being searched for, but I’ve come across nothing to that effect. DaveP
