In 1878, October 20.4 GMT astronomical time, in latitude N 67°4'49'', longitude 180°±10°; the mean of a series of Sun - Moon lunars was 69°1'50'', instrument corrections included. A circle was used for the measurements. Local mean time at the observation was 20d22h35m11.7s (astro). Temperature -14.5°C, pressure 753.8 mm Hg.
It is believed that the British NA was used. Solutions using contemporary methods are encouraged.
Observed longitude?
This lunar was observed by Captain Palander of the Vega, during the expedition through the Northeast passage. Together with a series of occultations it was used to determine the position of their winter quarter.
