    An amazing reflection

Whilst moored alongside the River Trent in Zephyr at the village of Fiskerton on the night of 15/16th July, I got up at 01.10 UTC for the usual reason for gentlemen of a certain age.  Upon glancing through the cabin window, I noticed a bright light in the water with a less bright one slightly to its right.  Although moving at 2-3mph (evidenced by the giant heaps of white froth moving quickly past*), the water was perfectly flat and mirrorlike.  Upon glancing higher, I realised I must be seeing the reflection of Jupiter with a much dimmer Saturn slightly lower and to its right.  I didn’t have a sextant with me, but I couldn’t help wondering if a sight might have been possible and how accurate it might have been.  Has anyone tried this? I took a couple of photos with my phone, but all I got was 100% blackness.

    * There are two substantial weirs at Hazelford Lock about a mile upstream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FpA95xnsSo 2min50sec.  You get froth forming there in the daytime, but I’ve never seen it in big lumps.  The only explanations I could think of were either because it was dead calm and not breaking up, or because someone somewhere upriver was taking the opportunity to run off grey water when it was least likely to cause offence.  DaveP
