An "integrating averager": how does it work?

Hello!
I'm reading about the ИМС-3 (IMS-3, the Soviet "integrating maritime sextant") which has some mechanical device to intergate/average the angle by automagically moving the auxiliary minutes and degrees scales. These scales show the offset/correction value that should be added to the mail scale readings.
What I cannot find is a meaningfull description of how exactly such integrating averager is designed and how it does actually work.
Could you please shed a light on the topic?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Tony
