Hello David,
Thanks for the suggestion that a linear ”slide rule” might be feasible. In truth, I hadn’t really thought of that in what I posted yesterday, I was really describing a proposed layout of year-markings for a 40 year calendar-disc covering 1996 to 2035, and it was easier to draw the numbers out straight rather than in a circle. Anyway I’ve thought about a “paper slide-rule” and have come up with the attached.
If you feel like having a look at it, there are two versions attached, one to cover the years 1996 to 2035, and a cut-down version to cover just the years 2026 to 2030. Some examples are listed on the third page attached.
Thanks for the thought about seeing if a linear slide-rule could work, and it was an interesting exercise. In the meantime, I’ve ordered a 50-year calendar-disc second-hand off eBay, just to play with!
