Jack,
These smart phone apps contain a chronometer (some can be automatically rate corrected), complete nautical almanac data, and sight reduction capability so that at the push of a button or tap on the screen there is paused and displayed the Ho and azimuth for the exact moment of the observation . This is pretty darn close to an easy button for a celestial navigator. Presetting the sextant is done just before the observation by glancing at the real time display of altitude for the height of eye and assumed position of the navigator. I have an old Palm Centro phone that does all this. It's almost a dinosaur.
