Yes, the pirate's clothing is a bit anachronistic. And as I noted in my original post, the one-hand sextant use was clearly just for show. Surprising considering that the film is otherwise a masterpiece of nautical science. You can read more about it here.
By the way, I recently had my DNA tested, and it turns out that I am genetically 43% pirate.
