Literally two days ago, a friend of mine asked if I could teach him celestial navigation and how long it would take. I told him "anywhere from six hours to six months". It all depends on what you hope to get out of it. The basic position finding aboard London's Snark (?) appears to have involved getting latitude *and* longitude by Noon Sun sights and other meridian sights of stars for latitude. That could be taught and learned in a few days... -FER http://www.HistoricalAtlas.com/lunars
