I managed to see Venus today too. I lay down on the grass and lined myself up to 197°, the azimuth it was supposed to be, and looked high up in the sky - and there was the thin sliver of a new moon. Back to the Astron online navigational program and it said the Moon was at 95 degrees azimuth and about 7 degrees lower than Venus. After that it was easy to spot the bright white spot of Venus even through quite thick cirrus cloud. Find the moon and three finger widths up....
