After a couple of decades of experimentation and demo programming, commercial television launched in the US in the New York area on 1 July 1941. The following night --which was 84 years ago tonight-- the first "movie" was shown on television, and apparently it was "Death from a Distance" (released theatrically in 1935, so "almost new" at that date). It's a murder mystery. And the killer? [spoiler alert] The star Arcturus did it!
