I think we better just focus on your latitude by LAN (local apparent noon) observation of the Sun from Sisal Mexico (Lat. 21° 10' N) for now. If the Sun's declination was 23° 26' north (very close to summer solstice) then the sextant Hs should have had a reading of 87° 35' at LAN with an azimuth of 360° (due north). Your Hs at 41° 10' is too far off to be a mistake even. If you were there during the winter solstice then the declination would be 23° 26' south and the sextant Hs would be 45° 16' with an azimuth of 180° (due south) and no natural horizon to work with if you were at the beach. Were you on a boat ? What was the date and UT (GMT) time of observation ?

Ok…here goes…
Took me longer than anticipated to dig this out of the mess that is currently my studio. I have other sheets of calculations, but these are the ones I wrote out for myself again to try and help me with the next ones (clearly, not successfully!).
I was actually in Sisal Mexico (not the middle of the Gulf of Mexico!)
