    Your right! The copper is not attracted by the magnet; but, a conductor
    moving in a magnetic field will have a current induced in it . These EDDY
    CURENTS flow in a direction to oppose the motion which produces the current.
    This yield a velocity dependent force, ie: damping. Check a college level
    general physics book and look for Lenz's law. Over simplistically stated as
    "The direction of an induced current is such as to oppose the cause (motion)
    producing it". You should also check Faraday's law. Two different views to
    the same effect.
