Assembling Sextant Optics

I have a Whyte Thomson & Co Glasgow vernier sextant. It does not havs a certificate and I do not know the date. I have never been able to get the optics to work. Instead I use the telescope ring as a sighting tube. I can think of three possible reasons for my problem:
(A I am expcting too much from the optics.
(b) I have assembled the parts incorrectly.
(c) One or more parts are missing.
I have attached a marked up photo of the telescope parts. Not shown in the photo is are binoculars. I have owned the sextant since the early 1970s and this is the first time I have asked for help wiith the optics. Any help would therefore be very welcome!
