Sean, I suggest you opt to do sun index correction check as outlined in the article by Starpath. (& others) Attached a URL for a .pdf description I found with a quick Google search but it is described by many sources.

You will get much more accurate results than you do by superimposing sun, moon or stars. The eyes ability to resolve is too limited for the technique to work well. In my own experience using star superposition I found no index errora at all then significant values of -.24 or more, using the sun.
