Hello all,

I'm a retired french merchant navy master mariner (C1NM), and celestial navigation has always stayed close to my heart, even as it became less and less part of day-to-day practice. To keep the skill sharp and make the calculations a bit easier, I ended up writing a small piece of software (with help of A.I.): Astra Vela Pro.

It computes ephemerides, reduces sextant sights to lines of position, keeps a dead-reckoning plot, and lays out a route — the Pro edition also handles offline tide predictions and GPS input. Everything runs locally, no internet connection required once installed.

It's free, no account needed, no ads — I'm sharing it simply because it might be useful to others who still practice this. It's still early (v0.1.0), so please be patient with any rough edges, and I'd genuinely welcome any feedback, corrections, or bug reports from this group — you're exactly the kind of demanding audience that will help me improve it.
