As far as UK usage is concerned: the MCA (Marine and Coastguard Agency - the qualifying body for nautical qualifications in the UK) requires those proceeding to a Master 2000GT qualification to pass an examination in 'Celestial Navigation'. Those less qualified, or amateur sailors, pursue the RYA Ocean Yachtmaster qualification, 50% of which consists of 'Celestial Navigation'.
