What I wrote was a quick summary of the main point of that Scholium in the Latin text as printed on page 27 in Maskelyne's edition of Mayer's Tabulae Motuum Solis et Lunae etc., London, 1770. Maskelyne translated the explanation for the tables, but unfortunately not the paper with the description of Mayer's instrument. Herbert Prinz
