Hello Marty,
thank you for pointing out this paper, was quoted my article "Vector Solution for the intersection of two circles of equal altitude
R.G. Andres. The journal of navigation, 61 (2) (2008), pp. 355-365" and used some of the equations.
The problem is not new:
- Azimuth Line of Position (1943)
- Le segment capable sphérique. Navigation Nº.116 Vol.XXIX, Institut français de navigation, octubre/1981.
FYI, see what I wrote in wikipedia: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isoazimutal#De_un_astro https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isoazimuth#From_a_star
The problem is very similar as the fix obtaining with RDFs in RadioNavigation, if you want to play, my free app ChartWort-LoPS is available. Use the star as the radio station located at its GP.
Fair winds and following seas!
