The YouTube channel CuriousMarc has started a series on the B-52 Astro Tracker, an automated celestial navigation system. They aim to reverse-engineer the "optics package", of which they have a specimen.
The first installment opens the device and has a preliminary look at the moving platform and some optics and optoelectronics, including a photomultiplier tube (PMT):
There's also a brief tutorial on celestial navigation, but nothing new to NavList readers.
I recommend their series on the Apollo Guidance Computer, by the way, from a few years back.
Cheers,
Peter
