It is interesting to note that highly skilled U2 pilots were taught to "Bradshaw".
The following comment is from "The Complete Air Navigator" by DCT Bennett.
Some people, who regard themselves as elementary, prefer to resort to the lowest form of map-reading in some circumstances, particularly if weather is bad. This "low" form of map-reading is what is called "Bradshawng". By this means the visual observer directs the aircraft by following sme particular feature sauch as a railway (hence the term "Bradshaw").
