I recently acquired a B II Celestial Computer in somewhat rough shape (photo attached). Does anyone have any information on this device? According to a snippet I found in an old 1965 issue of The Navigator (also attached below), the device was described in at least one edition of AFM 51-40: Volume II (probably an edition from the early 1960's). Would anyone happen to have a copy of that particular AFM 51-40 (pre-1973) and be willing to scan/share the relevant page?
This particular B-II is as described, a modficaition (i.e. sticker) kit that was applied to an R-1 VAID computer; the transparent sticker on the underside of the plotting board did not age so well.
On a different note, I'm intrigued by the merit of these "three-minute adjustments," as well as the "flexible one-minute" solution mentioned in the Navigator article. Does anyone have any historical information on why neither of these systems seem to be used anymore? Am I correct in assuming that 4-minute adjustments ultimately won the adjustment race?
Thanks in advance for any insights.
