I am sure my balcony is more stable than a ship's deck, even when a bouldozer is working nearby:-) The Freiberger art horizon is certainly unusable from such a platform, but the liquid horizon I used from my balcony with some success in good weather, when there was no buldozer nearby. (But I noticed that a medium size dog running on the ground 100 feet from my balcony disturbs the surface of water:-) As I wrote before, my Russian navigation manual recommends using an artificial horizon (a plate with oil) from the ship's deck in emergency. They recommend to stop the engines. Now I have a copy of this Russian book (from the library of Congress) so I am not citing from my memory anymore. Alex.
