It looks to me that you and others are making up a LIFEBOAT nav kit.

After the lightining hit your boat did it catch on fire and burn all of your books, charts, paper, etc.  What I am saying is lousing electronics should not be a big deal unless you rely on electronic charts, word processors for your log book, etc.

I wear a watch on my wrist that is self winding.  ( old school ) If I was sailing the ocean for fun I would have maps and charts of where I came from and where I was going.  I would keep a log book. After the loss of all my Gps, quartz clocks, raido time signal, et al I am NOT LOST.  How far can the boat be since the last position check? Where is the nearest coast or island?

If you do Cel Nav even a little bit for fun on your cruse you will have almanacs, plotting sheatrs, sight reduction tables, ect. in your cabin.  Those are what I would use.

I would have a lifeboat kit like what you have listed ( different books and almanac though ) but I would use my normal stuff first.

What would other members have in their lifeboat kit?
