I guess i'm a bit old fashioned, but the only methods for recodring time tthat i ever used were counting ..." i and 2 and 3 and ... etc," , as i strollled back to the chronometer location, and later i aquired a split second stop watch, which when i didn't get confused seemed to me to be the perfect method. I just started the watch at a convenient chonometer time, which was of course duly noted, and both hands of the watch moved in unison whilst i took my sight. When satisfied with the altitide, i simply pressed the appropiate watch button thereby stopping the red hand at the time elapsed since the chronometer reading - which time together with the sextant altitude being noted, the appropriate button was again pressed and the red hand automatically caught up with the black hand ready for another sight. The trouble with using touch screen is you have to find the pads without blinding yourself (no prob for sun sights.) There might be an app which allows the whole screen to be a an assignable button or allowing the earphone switch to actuate. So far, I haven't found that app. Basically a lap timer (there's one on iphone could be bent to the purpose. Only problem is getting the button easily. But the lap timer with memory and easy access buttons is what we need. No need to look at timer. It records intervals. You just look at the face when you're through with the sights, right? There are many apps which allow the earphone button to click the shutter in camera app, but I bet somebody's made an assignable switch app or even a bluetooth switch who's function could be user assigned.
