Anybody have any idea where such a free (or cheap but royalty-free) photo might be found? Do you think Robert Redford would be amenable? Any of you fit the description and want to be immortal?
I did find a very photo very similar to the one in question, except it is of a young man in some sort of sailor uniform. Also, http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-image-navigator-sextant-image5848386 had some potential, but there apparently is a fee.

The developer of StarStruck finally got back to me. He said it certainly was the picture of the woman but, "I wanted a picture of a sailor who has been several days at sea so I
added the beard." He said he had some comments
about it already, and wishes he could find a picture of "an elder sailor" holding a sextant.

Subject: [NavList] Bizarre gender photoshopping for celnav software ad
I was looking at celnav apps for Android and found the StarStruck Navigation app by a developer called Polyglotz. On its Google Play page, it showed an oddly familiar photo of a naval officer taking a sight:
It was oddly familiar because it was a photo that I've seen frequently used on websites to illustrate sextant use, only in this case the naval officer had been transformed from a woman to a man by the addition of a crudely photoshopped beard.
Here's an example of the use of the original photo:

I'm certainly curious why someone would feel compelled to make that change, but for the moment I'm posting on the Navlist more just to see if anybody knew the source of the original photo.
