Frank's recent post reminded me of another golden sextant. This one is
golden in more than just the obvious way!

Bobby Schenk is a sailor and sailing writer well known in Germany. Some
time in the '80s Aßkamp (or Asskamp) released a version of one of their
sextants endorsed by him.

They sent him a 'golden' version. Here's the accompanying letter
(forgive me, machine translated):

frame was cast in September 1984 by the Reitzammer company in Fürth, as
were the mirror frames and the frame for the telescope.

The mirrors were manufactured by the Leybold Hereaus company in Hanau,
the optics of the telescope came from the Erdmann company in
Greifenstein. The shadow glasses are from Schott, they were cut by the
Möller company in Wedel. The sextant parts themselves were manufactured
under the guidance of our plant manager, Mr. Gerwin, the alidade
warehouse and the bearing of the drum screws were ground in personally
by Mr. Gerwin. The final assembly was assembled by the well-known
precision mechanic, Mr. Gerd Ehmke, and Mr. Ehmke later measured the
finished device.
