Howard G. The Nav-Plotter in the Vulcan didn’t need a scientific calculator. They just lifted the top of their nav-table; took out the appropriate volume of AP3270; shoved it in the direction of the Nav-Radar; and expected him to get on with it, especially when the plotter was a Sqn Ldr Flt Cdr, and the Radar was a Flt Lt. I reckon I could pre calc a 2-star seven shot sandwich fix in around two minutes (now I have to keep reminding myself what all terms mean). I remember on my Aerosystems Course which took up all of 1974 (or maybe it was 75). The school had paid £2000 for an early HP programmable machine, which they might let you borrow for five minutes if you asked very nicely, and one plutocratic student also bought something similar. This posed a problem for the staff concerning examinations. Their solution was to simply make the sums harder. DaveP
