The geometry is straight forward right triangle starting at the solar filter center. The tape is held at a right angle to the kamal at the altitude degree mark for the observation. The length of the tape remains constant at 19.5 inches which allows a half inch to the eye center for a total base line of 20 inches. The Sun is kept centered in the aperture and the UT time is marked when the horizon is aligned with a whole degree of altitude at the notched mark along the side. The example hold image is for an altitude of 5 degrees.
