Francis,
The scales Wolfgang used were generated using an earlier version of the code atttached to http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Postscript-code-for-making-Bygrave-Scales-Stuart-jan-2015-g29918. Bill Morris also used the scales and Wolfgang's tubes to build a fine working model http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/MHR1-reproduction-Morris-apr-2011-g16115 . The code at the link above has been enhanced and is fully documented. Examples are given the that incorporate the idiosyncracies in real MHR1 scales painstakingly identified by Brad Morris http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Ruminatons-Bygrave-Hohenrechenschieber-scale-markings-Morris-feb-2013-g22419 . The program I use for processing PostScript is GhostView and you'll find full instructions in the documentation. GhostScript can produce output as a pdf file for compatibility with modern printers,
Regards,
Robin Stuart
