Have you been ga-what-now?!
OK, it's a British expression, and "gazumping" even has its own Wikipedia page. Having read the description, I would guess not. It's an obscure title, and I would bet they sold the book years ago and didn't update their inventory. I've had a similar experience with a big internet bookseller, but with an annoying twist-ending. They couldn't find the book I had bought, so their warehouse sent a coffee table book on wedding planning. Turns out this is standard procedure for them. They have mountains of overstock from a defunct small press, and they prefer to ship first and refund later. Odd policy, but I guess it works for them! We need a term for it. Maybe "gawedded"?
