Josh,
The Bris sextant shouldn't need use of welding glass. The images used are dimmed by several reflections. I use the 5,6,7, and 8th reflected Sun image on my home made microscope slide Bris. The base glass is a 52 mm camera filter (pick desired neutral density). A regular glass cutter and small diamond file should be all the tools needed.

We've been attempting to shape some welding glass for the solar filter piece, but since it's tempered it shatters when we try to score and break it. Is there an alternative to tempered glass? Or maybe a better way to shape tempered glass?
Thanks!
