Bris sextant is a toy, or perhaps an "emergency tool"
but not a tool for navigation or for learning navigation.

For all years that I own it, I had not enough opportunity even to grade it
reliably. Not speaking of testing its accuracy.

To grade a Bris sextant you have to spend several hours (doing nothing else!)
in sunny weather at the place with horizon
under the Sun non-obscured at all times, and be very attentive not to miss the "touching moments".
And to obtain a reliable grading, you have to repeat this exercise few times.

Observation with it also takes a lot of time, because you have to catch the "touching moment".
And horizon at this moment must be clear, and the Sun must be clear of clouds,
and you cannot be distracted by anything at this moment.

Al these conditions are much harder to meet than it seems. Presence of clouds
or any obstacles at the horizon
    may destroy the whole observation.

    Alex.

    Subject: [NavList] Bris sextant

    Hi All,

I am new to NavList. Found you through a Cruising Forum post. I have read
all the Bris posts in the Navlist archives and have looked at Sven's website.
Does anyone have a Sven made, or a self-made, Bris sextant that they would
like to sell. Unfortunately I do not have the dexterity and ability to make
    one for myself.

    Thanks,

    Adrian
